A romantic foodie bolthole in the Scottish Highlands…
Where: Kinguisse. A small town in the Scottish Highlands 19 miles from Aviemore, 42 miles south of Inverness.
What: A husband and wife owned guesthouse and fine dining restaurant with AA rosette accreditation and the puffiest banana souffle you’re ever likely to munch. It’s cosy, it’s snowy, there’s a fire, the bathrooms are brand new and the chef’s won awards – what more do you want.
Why: Food mainly but the accommodation is really really cosy. We came here for some private time when one of us was living in Glasgow and were blown away by the restaurant. Located next to the Gynack Burn (that’s a river) it’s a pretty romantic setting and if you’ve got the cash you might want to get a room with a river-side view. You can bring the whole family here so it would make for the perfect place to invite everyone for a special weekend.
Getting there: A scenic 2 hour drive north on the long winding roads from Glasgow or you can get the train to Kinguisse Station.
