My mum and dad have always worn each other’s perfumes irrespective of whether the bottle said Pour Femme or Pour Homme. Growing up, dad frequently smelt of Estee Lauder Pleasures and you’d be forgiven for thinking you were in the same room as an old, effeminate uncle after one of mum’s dousing sessions with a bottle of dad’s Pour Un Homme by Caron.
This gender bending clearly went on to influence my own smell preferences because as a teenager I wore CK be, Ralph Lauren Polo Sport and Issey Miyake for men as well as a bunch of “female” perfumes, so I’m really glad to see more fragrances doing away with the gender tag, leaving us to naturally discover what we like.
Heres what I’m wearing and washing with at the moment …
I001 Amber EDT 100ml from the Laboratory Perfumes collection available at Liberty. If a smell was a good-looking person, this would be it.
Murdock Grooming Black Tea Cologne 100Ml available at Liberty. People ask me what I’ve got on when I wear this! It’s like Jo Malone’s Pomegranate Noir but BETTER.
Dr Hauschka Lemon Lemongrass Vitalising Body Wash 200 ml – shower-time smells like one of those flannels you get to wash your hands (and face) with in Indian restaurants. Very kind to my stupidly sensitive skin.
MALIN+GOETZ Rum Body Wash. I first tried this at The Drake Hotel in Toronto and when I got back to London went straight out and bought some. Makes the silkiest lather and I can honestly smell it on on myself all day. Special stuff this. (Also comes in peppermint).
Aésop – Camellia Nut Facial Hydrating Cream. Yes it’s expensive but I’ve had mine for nearly a year! E45 is great but it doesn’t last all day like this does. My face honestly feels like a smacked arse without it.
Skandinavisk.com Obviously I don’t wear scented wax on my skin but I wanted to include this Danish scented candle company because they’re new to the UK and all the smells are delicious!! Each ones pays homage to a different aspect of nordic life (so Scandi) This cosy smell – Hygge – has echoes of tea, baked strawberry cake, rose petals and wild mint.
